You Are Never Alone!

The Bishop leaned forward and spoke to the young people about to be confirmed. He said: "Do you see this flame burning in the sanctuary?"

Everyone turned to look at the red candle flickering near the tabernacle. He continued, "This light reminds us that God is present in this Church."

Then he faced the young people. "In a few minutes, the Holy Spirit will light a flame in your heart. It is a reminder that God is always present there, too! And it means you will never be alone again."

What a powerful image of the Holy Spirit. It means God is present in our lives when we travel through days which are not bright and nights which are too long.

And through them all, we are never alone. God is in our hearts to help and guide us. This is a wonderful thought to keep alive especially as we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost.

St. Francis de Sales also wants us to be mindful that the Holy Spirit continues to bring God to dwell in our hearts. De Sales remarked:

"Whether the Holy Spirit strengthens us by actions that He impresses in our hearts or supports us by infused charity; whether He saves us by carrying us forward or strengthening our hearts with His invigorating love, it is always in Him and by Him that we live, love, and work."

It's another way to say "we are never left alone."

A Reading from the Gospel of John 15:8, 13

“The Spirit will come and show the people of this world the truth about sin and God’s justice and the judgment... The Spirit shows what is true and will come and guide you into the full truth.”
